About Me
Mother-priestess to one beautiful son, wife-priestess to a fantastic guy, full-time writer/graphic desiger, part-time English major (undergrad – got started late!), priestess-in-training living in SW Georgia, originally from NE Texas, practictioner of folk magic, devoted follower of Hecate, amateur herbalist, Rieki Master-Teacher, avid reader & book collector, literature lover, grammar guru wanna-be (isn't diagramming sentences fun? ;P ), outspoken & opinionated, gregarious, Scorpio cusp of Sag (keeps me grounded and my temper down!) ...
Music
As long as I can groove to it and understand the lyrics, I usually like it!
Movies
I love everything from Errol Flynn to Pirates of the Carribean! Black and white, color ... I don't care, as long as it's a good story.
TV
Who has time?
Books
Love 'em! Have them stacked on the kitchen counter and above the cabinets, on the china cabinet, the back of the toilet, the computer armoire, in the storage room, the den, on the floor in half the rooms of the house, the dining room table, the bedroom bureau, under the bed, in baskets, on the entry table ... I guess I really ought to finish installing those shelves!
Likes
honesty, respectfulness,, children's laughter, people who can take a joke (Is this list oxymoronic?)
Dislikes
discrimination, self-imposed ignorance, lying, pot-stirring, my husband taking over my side of the bed in the middle of the night
Vices
I have vices? You mean, I'm not perfect? That just ruined THIS life!
Virtues
Umm ...
Heroes
My son, who shows me the awesomeness of discovery in every day; my husband, who doesn't speak often, but says a lot when he does; my mother, who has remained strong through everything she's having to learn in this life; my priestess, who helps me find my Self and my relationship to the Divine in odre to guide others
There hasn't been much call in my life for the past 10 or so years for what I call "escapist literature," the latter word broadly denoted. While at one time I was a devourer of such, I have since come to realize that this genre is no longer appealing in my repretoire of missives and tomes.
Perhaps it is with maturity and world experiences that I have come to this conclusion. Specifically, I believe it is an understanding of how relationships work ... and not how they are depicted in antiquated romantic novellas of the middle of the past century.
As a teenager (some 20 years ago) I was an avid addict of Barbara Cartland romance novels. Most of them were set in the 1700-1800s, usually during either the Edwardian or Victorian periods, in England and ocassionally in parts of Europe.
Whew! It's been a while since I posted anything ...
Quick update: my research on the literary hag is being published. It will be available to universities and other interested parties in September this year! Very exciting. My advisor has already tagged me to attend next year's conference, and I plan to continue my Pagan-themed research, hoping to set a precedent for the Pagan literati! *smiles sheepishly*
I have finally completed the first official draft of my research paper on the literary hag archetype. Whew! Three people whose opinions and judgement I trust are looking at it for me, one has already gotten back to me and the other two I'm still waiting on. (As soon as I have the final draft, I'll post it here, if anyone is interested in reading it.) The conference is next week: I'm leaving for San Francisco on Wednesday, and I'm going to have so much fun! Neo-hippy that I am, I'll be down in Asbury-Haight ... blending in! :P
Thankfully, one paper is complete, the second paper's due date was moved out a week-and-a-half and the third paper (the big one!) is about half finished! Thank the Gods for shifting things around for me!
